Author: Jack Wylde
If you are planning to buy a brand new kia motors sedan then you can be pretty sure that the sedan will have a factory fitted radio. But there are many music fans who will not be satisfied with the performance as well as the capabilities of the radio provided with the car. This factory installed radio can easily be replaced with a radio purchased from the market that has the required specifications. For replacing the radio you first have to remove the radio that is already installed in the vehicle and this is exactly what this article is going to explain about. With the help of this article you will learn how to remove a kia optima car radio.
You will require a Philips screw driver and a panel tool for performing this task.
The first step involves locating the retaining clips that is holding the trim in place. The trim will surround the gear shift. Locating the clips is done by carefully prying around the edges of the trim. You will notice that as you pry around the edges of the clips the clips will loosen up. Loosen the clips still further and then remove them completely by pulling it straight out and in the upwards direction.
Now that we have removed the trim, the screws would become well exposed and it will become easy to remove them. The radio and the climate control will be covered by the trim panel. This trim panel will be held in place with the help of a couple of Philips screws. Loosen these screws by rotating the exposed screw in the counter clockwise direction.
After completing the above step, pry around the edges of the trim panel that surrounds the climate control with the help of the panel tool. Just as in the first step, the retaining clips are to be released with prying. When the retaining clips loosens up and releases, remove the trim panel away from the radio.
When the trim panel is removed you will notice a wiring harness that is connected to the back. Hold the wiring harness in your hands and unplug the harness from the back. After unplugging the harness you will find that the trim panel will be completely separated and keep the trim panel aside.
This is the final step in removing the radio from the radio from the car. After the removal of the trim panel, four Philips screw will be exposed. These four screws are responsible for holding the radio in its position. For removing the radio, these screws have to be removed. For unscrewing them, rotate the screws in the counter clockwise direction. After the removal of these screws the radio can be removed from its place easily. But the radio will be connected to the vehicle by the wiring connectors. Unplug these wiring connectors and then take out the radio from the dash board; now the radio is completely detached from the car and can be replaced with an aftermarket radio.
By following these steps you can remove a kia optima car radio and then install a radio of your choice.
